Hi everyone! :)
This is my second blog. This blog will be about friendship. :)
*The Devoted Friend*
This is a story about a devoted friend. Little Hans had a
great many friends, but the most devoted friend of all was big Hugh the Miller.
Little Hans had kind heart and funny round good - humoured face. He lived
alone. He had a very beautiful garden
with a lot of flowers. He picked flowers for sale. His devoted friend Miller
was rich miller. Miller always came to Little Hans in order to pluck a large
nosegay or a handful of sweet herbs. Little Hans was happy to have such a
friend. Winter was difficult season Little Hans. He did not have anything to eat and
felt lonely. In spring Miller visited Little Hans. Little Hans explained that
winter was a very bad time for him. He sold a lot of stuff. Miller promised to
give him old wheelbarrow, but he wanted very much help for this service.
Firstly, he asked a plank of wood ,because he wanted to repair the roof of his
barn. Secondly, he asked a big basket of flowers. Thirdly, Little Hans had to
carry flour to the market and to sell
them. Later Little Hans mended the hole in the roof. After that, Little Hans
drove his sheep to the mountain. Finally, Miller asked for help because his son
has fallen of a ladder and hurt himself, so Little Hans had to call a doctor.
Little Hans did not have time to look after his flowers. He was very tired.
Miller always reminded about his wheelbarrow and about their friendship. Little
Hans died and he did not receive the wheelbarrow. Everyone felt sorrow for Little
Hans...
Questions and answers:
1.What are the animals talking in the beginning of the story?
The Duck was trying to teach little ducks how to stand on their heads in the water. "You will never be in the best society unless you can stand on your heads. " - she kept saying to them. Water-rat looked at the Duck and her children. After that Duck, Water-rat, Green Linnet discussed about family and friendship. Then Green Linnet told a story.
2.What does the author (Oscar Wilde) wants to tell the reader (what is the moral of the story)? Why?
I think the author wanted to tell the reader that it was necessary to have some friends. Firstly, you should love your real friends, but not to command them to do your work, and secondly, you should not sacrifice yourself.
3.What are the animals discussing in the end of the story? What are their emotions/reactions?
Water-rat asked what had happened to Miller. Green Linnet said he did not care. He told Water-rat, that he did not understand the moral of the story. Water-rat got angry and went into his cave. Animals had different emotions.
4.What are your thoughts and feelings after the story?
